“COSMETIC SCIENCE AND COSMETIC CHEMISTRY” POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME ADDRESSEES OF THE PROGRAMME The programme is open for persons interested in cosmetic chemistry and technology, and in particular for graduates of chemistry, pharmaceutics and biology, as well as graduates of graduate-level vocational programmes in cosmetics. In special cases it is also possible for final year students of the abovementioned disciplines to be enrolled. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ENROLLMENT: - diploma of graduation from a tertiary education institution (original or authenticated copy) - 1 passport photo (signed overleaf) - copy of ID - application form (available from the office or on The Academy’s website- please download the application form and fax it to +48 (0) 226357362) - contract for educational services (form available from the office) THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAMME The goal of the postgraduate programme is to offer students a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on practical aspects of cosmetology and covers the following fields: qualities of cosmetic products, effects of cosmetic products, active ingredients, recommendations and methods of usage of cosmetic products and finally methods of effectiveness evaluation. Furthermore, the students get familiar with legal aspects of the use of cosmetic products and learn to evaluate the actual effectiveness and usefulness of cosmetic products on the basis of the information provided on the product label. The goal of the programme is to prepare the students for successful careers in cosmetic industry and to increase the qualifications of those students who are already launched in their careers in the industry. THE CURRICULUM The curriculum consists of lectures and seminars. Before the start of the semester, each student chooses a set of classes (teaching modules) in which he/she will participate. The programme offers a comprehensive treatment of all areas and specialisations that constitute modern cosmetic chemistry. - Composition and physiology of skin and its appendages; - Legal aspects of production and distribution of cosmetics and cosmetic raw materials; - Cosmetic raw materials; - Lipids and silicones; - Surfactants; - Additives: rheology modifiers, dyes, preservatives; - Physicochemistry of cosmetic forms; - Cosmetic products: formulations and their development, active ingredients and their effects; - Body care and hair care cosmetics; - Skincare; - Makeup; - Perfume products; - Production technology, organisational and economic aspects of production; - Cosmetic microbiology; - Methods of efficacy testing, safety of use of cosmetic products; - Elements of cosmetics marketing and advertising. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS In order to obtain a diploma of graduation a student should complete the minimum of 168 hours. The student can choose modules according to his/her interests. However, attending the “General introduction” module is obligatory. The total number of hours in the “General introduction” module plus other modules attended by the student should not be lower than 168. DIPLOMA OF GRADUATION Pursuant to the Tertiary Education Bill, the graduates obtain a Diploma of Graduation from a Graduate Programme at the Academy of Cosmetics and Health Care in Warsaw.
